What we have been up to this week...

Image
On Wednesday we were all super excited because a lady from Flex Dance Class came in to teach us some street dance. We learnt a dance which we then performed to the whole school. It was so much fun! We have used lots of Drama techniques in Literacy this week, to help us understand character perspectives from the story.  In Maths we have been applying our knowledge of subtraction to lots of different scenarios. This week's homework is a reasoning challenge.  Reminders: -We are working really hard to win the attendance trophy in KS1. Please ensure your child is at school on time, every day. Children who arrive on time will receive a dojo.   - Please encourage your child to leave personal items such as toys at home. We have a had a few incidents of toys going missing or being broken at school. These can also be very distracting for children, particularly if they have them in their pockets. - Book bags and Reading logs should be brought to school every day. We check r

Today we read the next part of the story in our class Literacy book. The princess went on a long journey to try and search for the prince. We painted a map to show where she travelled.

What we have been up to this week...

We have been super busy again this week in year one, working hard but having lots of fun too! In Literacy we have used drama and art to understand and infer information from the story we are reading. We are really enjoying reading "The Princess and the White Bear King" and so far we have learnt that the Princess was wrong to listen to her Mum about the bear. In Maths we have been using the bar model method. The children have been sorting different things into groups and completing a bar model to show part and whole of the amount. 10 3 7 We know the total always go at the top and the two different amounts go underneath this, these parts must always equal the total number. Some of us even looked at more than 2 parts to make a whole. The homework this week is to complete the sheet sent home with your child today. They need to complete the bar model by finding the missing part. Challenge - complete a bar model using your own knowledge of number bonds to

What have we been up to this week...

We were so happy to see all the children back this week after the Christmas holidays. They have all had a fantastic attitude to school, they have all tried their best with their work and shown they are eager to learn all about the topic. This week in Literacy we have started to look at the story “The Princess and the White Bear King.” We have only read the first few pages but we are excited to find out what happens next. In Maths we have been finding the missing number in a number sentence by counting on. Try having a go at these at home. 7 + __ = 15 3 + __ = 17 12 + __ = 18 7 + __ = 11 In the afternoon we have started to explore the Arctic. We have learned which animals live there and why they look the way they do (See if your child can tell you!) We also investigated ice, how it changes over time in different conditions. We know not to put ice on the radiator now as it will melt very quickly! Have a lovely weekend :)

The dream crown...

Image
Today we read part of the story "The Princess and the White Bear King" and discussed what kind of crown the princess had been dreaming about. We designed and made our own crowns that were "brighter than the sun itself". We then peer critiqued each others work and decided why we thought the princess should choose our crowns. We wrote to the king to try and persuade him to pick our design. Here are a few examples of our work. Miss Ward was so impressed with our work!
